About

SNAIL: Slow Culture & Stories for Change is a Canadian federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to storytelling as a tool for cultural transformation, healing, and connection.

We support the voices of those too often silenced—women, queer individuals, migrants, racialized and neurodivergent communities—through projects rooted in care, collaboration, and creative freedom.

Our approach is grounded in the principles of slowness, deep listening, and narrative shifting. We believe stories are not simply told, but lived, embodied, and remembered. Through land-based residencies, mobile installations, collective filmmaking, and poetic interventions, we co-create spaces where alternative narratives can take root and thrive.

SNAIL invites artists, storytellers, and cultural workers to move at a different pace—to delearn dominant paradigms, decolonize expression, and imagine new cultural futures in shared, inclusive spaces.

Mission

Our mission is to cultivate inclusive, interdisciplinary platforms that support storytelling as a transformative and decolonial cultural practice.

We work to:

  • Create safe, creative spaces for marginalized voices to share stories through art, film, ritual, and performance

  • Promote delearning and challenge inherited narratives through narrative shifting and deep listening

  • Develop mobile and land-based programs that increase access to cultural participation

  • Amplify storytelling as a means of collective reflection, resistance, and reimagination

  • Foster slow, intentional, and transnational collaborations across artistic, ecological, and community lines

At SNAIL, we believe change does not happen through speed, but through depth, relation, and the courage to listen differently.
