The Cocoon Studio
The Cocoon Studio is a nomadic and modular creative space dedicated to storytelling in all its forms. Designed for women, queer individuals, and cultural minorities, it offers a protected, nurturing environment where personal and collective stories can be expressed through poetry, sound, textiles, movement, and ritual.
Inspired by the symbolic metamorphosis of the cocoon, the studio supports voices in transition—those shaped by migration, identity shifts, and cultural complexity. It holds space for stories that don’t fit dominant forms—stories that are whispered, woven, danced, or sung.
Whether appearing as a tent, mobile installation, or part of The Story Caravan, the Cocoon Studio travels to where stories are waiting to be held.
What We Envision
At the heart of the Cocoon Studio is storytelling—not just as a literary form, but as an embodied and multimedia practice.
We offer:
-
Small-scale residencies and creative retreats
-
Storytelling workshops using sound, poetry, and visual ritual
-
Collective memory-sharing and story circles
-
Textile and movement-based storytelling formats
-
Pop-up performances and soft exhibitions of evolving works
Grounded in feminist, queer, and decolonial values, the studio honors stories that are in process, incomplete, or culturally layered—told in the language of gesture, thread, vibration, and voice.
Current Status
The Cocoon Studio is currently in development, with a first pilot residency planned for 2025. The debut installation—featuring Story telling, collage poetry, music, and ritual performance—will take place inside a symbolic silk cocoon and explore themes of migration, femininity, and memory.
We are seeking:
-
Storytellers, poets, and interdisciplinary artists
-
Residency spaces, cultural partners, and curators
-
Funding for mobile infrastructure and creative support
Why It Matters
The Cocoon Studio recognizes that storytelling is not only a cultural act—it is a healing act.
For many women, queer individuals, and minorities, traditional platforms often ask for translation, simplification, or conformity. The Cocoon offers an alternative: a space of softness, protection, and radical listening—where stories can be expressed in many languages, including those of body, sound, fabric, silence, and ritual.
